Change Your Mind, Change Your Poker

Just posted this on Facebook in response to someone talking about worry:

"Winning at poker is about learning how to deal with loses and failure… what are the lessons within a loss, and what are the blessings?"

Blessings in a loss… you may say I am a crazy women!

Our entire life is about dealing with failures. We stumble and fall. We get back up. Then, we get back in the game.

However, this is the key for me. And, it actually comes from quantum physics… and I said that with a straight face!

The simple act of observing affects the outcome.

So, when I realize I am in the throws of 'the mad frets' about a poker hand or a poker session, I take a moment. Without judgement, I say to myself, 'Hmmm. Isn't that interesting.'

That creates a simple shift in consciousness. A degree or two. Just enough to stop feeding energy to the frets.

Remember,

If you can't rasie, don't call.

  1. Oh Wise Poker Soul, couldn't agree more;  a slight shift in consciousness, as it is in life, is often all you need to shift your game into a better gear.  Guts required…sports bra (in my case), is NOT optional:)

LOL Kelley… I am so grateful you stopped by and commented! People should know that you have had a profound part in the shaping of women’s poker. Thank you!

  2. Couldn't agree more either Donna! Where do you get your ideas from? 😉
Thanks for being a great coach and mentor, see you in a couple of hours for the coaching session. Looking forward to it!
Not sure on the sports bra at the moment but I'll try anything once.

We love your humor Chris! And thank you for giving me the courage to mention quantum physics and the power of observation. I live it but have been reluctant to bring it into my coaching. Then, you helped me remember that since it is part of my authentic self, it belongs out here in the open!
Hmmm. Let’s see, I think black is your color.

  3. Black! 'Hmmm. Isn't that interesting.' yes I have used the interesting response, but wish it were more readily forth coming under pressure.  I have not been to your site before, seems I just am not in your demographics I am BIG not a Girl and forgot how to play POKER, but I find your writing has depth I'''ll be back.

  4. This is so very true!  I find that if I can just step back from the "bad beats" and see the positive things that happened… even if it's just knowing that I "got my money in good" I can let go of the bad feelings and realize that sometimes stuff just happens.  That's poker!  🙂  This is a great site and I'll be coming back!  I wish I could afford your coaching because I think you'd really help my game!

    1. Christine, thank you! Letting go of those bad feelings is like forgiving ourselves for losing. Even tho’s we are our own worst enemies, we can be our biggest resource.

By the way, I bet you can afford my poker coaching. I have just designed an even more affordable alternative to the 8-week Poker Pure & Simple(tm) Live Coaching. I’d love to talk with you about it.
